Outdoor soccer captains' guide

We know how much work it is to captain a team, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you to get the job done. This guide will show you the ins and outs.

Rule changes

  • Gender rules are once again in effect: Teams must have at least 1 player of the opposite gender present at game time or the game will be forfeited.

    • Reason for change: This is a co-ed league and we'd like to see more women out at the games!

  • Four roster players must be present at game time or the game will be forfeited. The coordinator will check the roster to confirm attendance. Note: your roster can include occasional players or subs, they just need to sign the waiver.

    • Reason for change: A team made up of a majority of subs isn't really the team the opposition was scheduled to play.

  • Goalies cannot pick up balls passed back to them by a teammate.

    • Reason for change: This brings our rules more in line with the official soccer rules, cutting back on confusion.

  • Goalies can drop-kick balls.

    • Reason for the addition: This was not previously included in the rules, and is in line with official soccer rules.

  • Forfeits will be scored 5-0 for the opposing team.

    • Reason for the addition: This was not previously included in the rules, though is the standard we have been following the score is based on the average number of goals scored per team per game.
